Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Friday presented a cheque for Rs 10 lakh to the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), which had produced a film on Dr Ambedkar, starring Mammootty in lead.

An official press release said the Chief Minster presented the cheque to National Film Development Corporation Deputy General Manager D Ramakrishnan at the Secretariat in Chennai.

“The decision to present the cheque was taken as the film is being screened in the State,” official sources said. Tamil Nadu Information Minister Parithi Illamvazhuthi and other higher officials were present.

A long pending project, the film throws light on the life and times of Ambedkar, the man behind India’s constitution. Mammootty once described it as his one of his important projects.
